Discovery Tree's programs provide a "Hands-On" environment and activities for children of all ages.  The Pre-School and School-age programs utilize a balance between teacher-directed times and OPEN learning center times where children move from center to center making choices and changing projects as their interests change.

Our learning centers and rooms contain teacher-directed activities as well as many self-directed activites, art supplies, workjobs, and books on low shelves at the child's level for independant choices.

We believe that children remember and use ideas which they discover for themselves.  Based upon that principle, we have designed the program at DISCOVERY TREE to provide an enriched environment in a variety of areas which stimulate and encourage discovery learning.  The children are the "doers." i.e., they are active participants in the learning process.   The staff are the "facilitators," i.e., we use our skills to set up the learning environment and to help children analyze problems and situations and reach conclusions based upon their experiences.  At Discovery Tree, we never underestimate the power of child's play!  We believe that happy, healthy and confident children are successful children.  Therefore, the child's social, emotional, and physical development are as important as academic learning.  In addition to offering children freedom of choice, we also promote participation in group activities.  We believe that children learn cooperation and positive social skills through group participation.

Pre-School Ratios:
Discovery Tree maintains a teacher-child ration of 1 to 9 in our Pre-school Program and Extended Day Programs. 

Elementary-School Age Ratios:
Discovery Tree maintains a teacher-child ratio of 1 to 12 in our Elementary-school Age Program.
